EFI announces availability of Pro24 flatbed printer

EFI has announced that its Pro24, the company’s first flatbed wide format printer that features its LED and variable drop greyscale head technologies, is now commercially available.

Unveiled in October, the Pro24 has a 4x8ft bed and is able to print in four colours plus white ink as standard. The printer also boasts a multi-zone vacuum system that not only offers users efficient hold-down capabilities, but also eliminates masking and ensures accurate registration for multiple over-prints or panels.

Users of the new machine will benefit from EFI’s popular ‘cool cure’ technology, which the manufacturer said ensures lower power consumption, minimal waste and compatibility with thinner and heat-sensitive substrates.

In addition, the Pro24 has a built-in EFI Fiery proServer Core digital front end that gives users the power of faster job processing, along with a range of colour management and production options.

Despite having only been announced a couple of months ago, the Pro24 has been able to generate a high level of interest across the global market, with a number of companies contacting EFI for information about the new solution.

One such company is Superior Signs & Engraving in Wichita, Kansas, in the US, which has become the very first user of the Pro24. Adam Stiles, co-owner of the company, paid tribute to the impact of the new printer and explained how it has helped to transform the way the firm operates.

“We were completely blown away once the printer was up and running,” Stiles said. “The 24f produces vibrant colours and has great print speed. In fact, we have doubled our output on flatbed work with this new printer.

“Plus, the printer's white ink produces a very opaque, bright white colour, which has increased our quality of print. Overall we would recommend this printer 100%.”

Stiles also highlights the machines ability to accurately and consistently handle a broad range of substrates: “The features that are a nice upgrade for us besides the colour quality and speed are the button activated media guides and the media float button.

“When positioning heavier medias such as 6mm Dibond and quarter-inch acrylic, the float allows us to easily position the material without having to worry about sliding it, especially on double-sided prints.

“The built-in EFI Fiery proServer with FASTRIP, makes RIPing files extremely easy and fast, which helps with our overall output.”

EFI is now staging demonstrations of the machine and offering print samples at its European and US inkjet demo centres in Brussels, Belgium, and Meredith, New Hampshire, respectively.

The manufacturer is also due to exhibit at a number of upcoming FESPA events, where visitors can learn more about the new Pro24, as well as the portfolio of other technology also available from EFI.

FESPA Asia will be the first of these events, taking place from February 22-24 at the BITEC exhibition centre in Bangkok, Thailand.
