Casper Madsen, who finished second in the 2018 FESPA World Wrap Masters grand final, opens up about his “Awesome” experience in the competition and explains why others should take part next year.
Hailing from Denmark, Madsen works as both a car-wrapper and sign-maker for Colors Skive Aps. The company specialises in a wide range of branding, such as large-format printing, banners, roll-ups, car stickers, logo design, car wrapping, 3D letters and even boat wrapping.
However, as Madsen explains, his career in the industry stretches back to when he was just 15-years-old.
“I started out in the industry when my parents bought me a small sign company in Denmark,” Madsen said. “I ran the company for three years before I started as a trainee at NH Skilte, which has since changed its name to Colors Skive Aps.
“Here is where I got my education as a sign-maker. I was able to start wrapping cars; this is something I do to this day and still love doing it.
“We only have four people working for the company, but all of us have a huge passion for car wrapping and sign-making. This year has been particularly busy for us and we often have to work 12- or 16-hour days, almost seven days a week.”
Competing With The World’s Best Wrapper
Although Madsen was not able to take part in the Danish Wrap Masters regional event due to work commitments, he took the plunge and put his name down for the European Wrap Masters round, where he finished third and qualified for the grand final at the 2018 FESPA Global Print Expo.
“My boss at Colors Skive Aps has competed in the World Wrap Masters for a number of years now and he was always encouraging me to have a go,” Madsen said. “I wanted to see how my skills compared to those of wrappers from all over the world.
“I didn’t think I would finish in the top three at the European Masters and me and my girlfriend only had a hotel in Berlin for two nights, so we had to go and find another hotel for the last two days.”
Madsen progressed to the final in Berlin, Germany, and finished second behind overall winner Ivan Tenchev of Bulgaria and ahead of fellow Dane Jan Edelgaard in third. All three took home a cash prize.
“I still can’t get it in my head that I am the second best car wrapper in the world,” Madsen said. “It is such an awesome feeling!”
The Most Awesome Time
Reflecting on his time in the competition, Madsen calls for other professionals to enter the 2018 FESPA World Wrap Masters and enjoy a similar experience.
“It’s the most awesome time I’ve ever had in my life,” Madsen said. “The other competitors are so good and fun to be around between the events. I learned so many other techniques during the contest and became much faster at wrapping.
“I would like to say thanks to my girlfriend Kirstine Kristensen for going with me and supported me all the time. I’d also like to say thanks to my boss for letting me go at a busy time.
“Also, thanks to my family and friends for the support and the surprise party that they held for me. And finally, I’d like to say a big well done to all of the other competitors – I have so much respect for each and every one of you.”
