Harness the power of digital wide-format with MIS

Management information systems have seen massive growth in take-up over the past few years, becoming a ‘must have’. Rob Fletcher investigates what we will on display at FESPA 2017.

While some print companies prefer their own system of in-house organisation, many other firms have made the leap and invested in an MIS, and are reaping the benefits.

Manufacturers and suppliers of this software will tell you that such products can allow users to take greater control of their production process, and, as a result, can enjoy savings related to costs, time and material wastage.

For those that are still undecided over MIS solutions, FESPA 2017 will allow to gain further insight into this software and the benefits it can offer to printing companies around the world.

Taking place from May 8-12 in Hamburg, Germany, the show will welcome various manufacturers and suppliers from the software sector of the market, including a number of companies that can assist visitors on the lookout for a workflow management solution.

One exhibitor that can help in this area is Optimus Group, which can be found on Stand A30 in Hall A1 of the main FESPA show. Optimus, which operates under the header ‘The Future of Management Information’, offers various MIS software solutions to the print industry.

The firm said that its ‘Optimus dash’ product has been designed for print media companies that require a solution to “satisfy the needs of today’s customers”, with the ability to handle fast turnaround, full campaigns and simple products. Also available from the company is ‘Optimus 2020’, which has been a popular choice in the litho sector of the industry for around 30 years.

Experts from the firm will be on the company’s stand throughout the exhibition to field any queries visitors may have about its products or MIS in general.

Elsewhere, although perhaps not strictly a provider of MIS solutions, shopVOX is able to provide solutions to help manage production. The company offers a web-based job management, CRM and point-of-sale system built for a client’s custom shop and industry.

As quoted on the shopVOX website, Tim Grigsby of shopVOX customers Simple Solutions Printing, said: “With shopVOX, I feel back in control of the shop, I put more orders out the door with less headache – that’s more money in my pocket and more time with my family.”

Away from the show floor, visitors will have access to an immersive programme of content, designed to help attendees improve their business.

For those on the hunt for ways to better manage their production process, a number of sessions may be of interest, such as ‘Colour challenges in signage printing on non-paper like substrates - measuring, profiling and viewing to correlate colour perception with colour measurements’.

Presented by Dorin Pitigoi, colour and standardisation expert at Fogra, although the session does not specifically focus on MIS, it will cover many of the issues related to such software, including how to take more control of production. This session will take place at 12pm on day two and day five of FESPA 2017.
