University of Ioannina Summer Workshop on Graphic Arts (Museum of Typography)
FESPA’s Greek Association, HELSPA and the University of Ioannina worked together to launch the 1st Panhellenic Congress of the Graphic Arts at the University of Ioannina in Greece.
The occasion was also the inauguration of the University’s Museum of Typography and Graphic Arts. Attendees had the opportunity to view a collection of historical printing equipment and demonstrations of book-binding and screen printing.
The Congress began with an Opening Keynote by the Rector of the University and Emma Tuddenham, FESPA’s Association Manager. Emma reviewed the FESPA Print Census’ 6 key trends and talked about FESPA’s shows and events. Graeme Richardson-Locke, FESPA’s Technical Support Manager, gave a presentation on quality control in wide-format inkjet and screen printing.
Presentations from printers in the packaging and label industries as well as faculty members covered various subjects including typographical history, patents for near-infrared imaging applied to textile and the intricacies of printing requirements for bank note production.
The final two days focused on practical workshops in both screen printing and offset litho printing.
