FESPA Awards have become a highlight in the print and signage industry, showcasing the best in creativity, technical expertise, and sustainability across 18 specialist categories judged by a panel of industry professionals. This article highlights 3 winners from 2023, CGI Creative Graphics, Bell Printers, and X-Treme Creations whose work demonstrated the innovative possibilities in interior print, labels and packaging.
CGI Creative Graphics’ Middle Eastern-Inspired Decal for the Toyota Hilux Double Cab (Gold Award - Decals and Printed Labels)
CGI Creative Graphics, based in Cape Town, South Africa, won the Gold Award in Decals and Printed Labels for their entrant for Toyota Hilux Double Cab. Inspired by Middle Eastern landscapes and traditional designs, the CGI team created a decal that reflects regional cultural elements. Printed on premium outdoor-grade vinyl, the decal design uses complex shapes, textures, and bespoke inks, ensuring durability and vibrancy that meets OEM specifications.
Developed over 3 - 4 months by a team of 8, the decal was produced with CGI’s own inks and varnishes, using silk-screen printing to achieve complex tonal requirements. CGI Graphics is an ISO 14001 organisation; therefore, sustainability was a core consideration. This winning project highlights CGI’s commitment to technical excellence, cultural representation, and environmental responsibility in automotive graphics.
Bell Printers’ Luxury Coffee Packaging for Alluveim (Bronze Award – Packaging on Paper and Board)
Bell Printers, a small third-generation family-owned business from Sivakasi, India, received the Bronze Award in the Luxury Packaging category for their eco-conscious, high-end coffee packaging designed for Alluveim. The packaging was designed to show the premium nature of the coffee while remaining sustainable, using locally sourced recycled paperboard for the primary structure.
The design features luxury details like hot-foiling, die-cutting, and concealed magnets, topped with a thermal velvet lamination for a luxury finish. Produced in just 15 days, the project presented Bell Printers with the challenge of balancing sustainability with luxury aesthetics. Known for their alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), Bell Printers continues to prioritise eco-friendly materials and practices, setting a high standard in luxury packaging for clients worldwide.
X-Treme Creations’ Giant Inflatable Robot at Electric Love Festival (Gold Award – Printeriors)
Belgium’s X-Treme Creations impressed festivalgoers and industry experts with their 18-meter-tall inflatable robot, created for the Electric Love Festival. Designed to look like a rusty, industrial robot, this 18-metre-tall inflatable offered the visual impact of solid metal while being lightweight enough to hang from scaffolding. The robot was printed on 195gsm fire-retardant polyester fabric using a Durst 512R LED and sewn together to form the finished project.
The inflatable was both visually striking and sustainably produced, providing an eco-friendly alternative to polystyrene displays often used for sets at festivals. X-Treme Creations considered aesthetics and functionality, designing the structure to withstand high winds typical at outdoor festivals. This ambitious project highlights the company's expertise in festival design and their commitment to reducing the environmental impact of large-scale installations.
These entries from CGI Creative Graphics, Bell Printers, and X-Treme Creations showcase some of the best in Printeriors, decals and packaging. The FESPA Awards recognise exceptional skill and creativity but also the effort that print companies are making within sustainability, pushing a positive impact on the industry.
