Hampshire Flag Company celebrates Team GB’s Olympic success
British flags and textiles specialist Hampshire Flag Company produced a series of special flags to celebrate the success of Team GB’s athletes at the recent 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
The company created embroidered commemorative one-and-a-half-yard Union flags for each of the three Team GB Winter Olympic Flag Bearers.
Flags were created for Eve Muirhead, skip of the gold medal-winning women’s curling team, as well as Bruce Mouat, a member of the men’s silver medal-winning team and flag bearer at the Games’ closing ceremony.
The third flag was handed to slalom skier, Dave Ryding, who carried the British flag at the opening ceremony in February.
Hampshire Flag Company, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, has been working with the British Olympic Association over the last four years, creating products such as flags, hand wavers and bunting for the Team GB athletes and supporters.
The company also counts the Ministry of Defence, The Jockey Club, Portsmouth Football Club and Carnival Cruises among its customers in Great Britain.
“We pride ourselves on producing the highest quality flags and signage products and so to be able to supply products for the nation’s elite athletes to display and help boost morale at the Olympics, the highest performance stage, is an absolute honour and something that as a company we are very proud to support,” said Rod Sessions, sales and marketing manager for Hampshire Flag Company.
“We felt it would be a lovely gesture to supply our flag bearers with a personalised version of the Union flag that they had carried at the opening and closing ceremonies, as a keepsake of this special time for them.
“They all performed incredibly well, and it is absolutely fantastic that Bruce won a silver medal and Eve scooped that illusive gold medal at her fourth Olympics.”
Muirhead and the women’s curling team scooped the gold medal, seeing off Japan in the final with a convincing 10-3 win.
The men’s team also went close to gold, narrowly missing out in the final after losing 5-4 to Sweden in a hotly contested match that went to an extra round.
Ryding did not win a medal at the 2022 Games but did secure Britain's first ever alpine ski World Cup victory, winning the Kitzbuhel World Cup slalom in January of this year on the Hahnenkamm slope in Austria.
