Sustainable manufacturing and digital innovation with Eurojersey

Debbie McKeegan speaks to Eurojersey, an Italian textile manufacturer, is navigating the evolving global market by prioritizing digital transformation and sustainability. The company uses advanced digital printing, 3D design tools, and integrated software to provide customized solutions, reduce errors, and enhance efficiency. Eurojersey is also committed to sustainable manufacturing through its SensitivEcoSystem® program, focusing on reducing resource consumption, waste, and emissions.

As the global market evolves, textile companies like Eurojersey are at the forefront, embracing digital transformation and sustainability to foster growth and customer loyalty. Alessio Zocchi, Printing Department Manager at Eurojersey, provides insight into how this Italian textile manufacturer embraces and navigates these changes and champions innovation.

Eurojersey, renowned for their high-quality textile prints and their patented Sensitive® Fabrics’ range, operates a vertically integrated production plant in Varese, Italy. Serving clients from international brands, Eurojersey supply printed fabrics for sportswear, lingerie, prêt-à-porter, and swimwear collections. The plant has established stringent quality control procedures and promotes large-scale production, with sustainability always - front of mind. As the first Italian textile company to be certified "Made Green in Italy," which further endorses their environmental performance and accordance with the European Commission's Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) method.

The power of digital transformation in the fashion industry is increasingly evident. It's reshaping the way products are developed and marketed. Eurojersey leverages advanced digital printing technologies and 3D design tools to offer customised, solutions to its customers. High-resolution designs, an infinite colour range, and the ability to create 3D effects are the advantages of such innovative methods. Eurojersey goes further and employs integrated software that allows communication between the design team, production, and colour management systems. This ensures that changes made to designs or colours are immediately reflected in production, reducing errors and speeding up the process.

It's the application of these technologies and processes in combination with a renowned reputation and skill for high quality textile printing that deliver significant savings in terms of dyes, water, methane and greenhouse gas emissions, which align with Eurojersey's commitment to sustainability.

One of the most significant shifts in consumer behaviour is an increased focus on sustainability and eco-consciousness. Eurojersey’s SensitivEcoSystem® program resonates with this demand, employing procedures and technologies aimed at reducing water, energy, and chemical consumption and minimizing waste and carbon emissions. This syncs with the rising tide towards brands that adopt eco- friendly practices, positioning Eurojersey as a leader in sustainable printed textile manufacturing.

Colour management is an integral part of Eurojersey’s production process, and with the implementation of BARBIERI electronic color measurement technology at the core of their colour management strategy and production workflow, they achieve professional ICC profiling, calibration, and quality control that delivers consistency, speed, and high-quality printed output. This is particularly important for maintaining accuracy across different printers and production runs. To ensure that the printed output meets the desired standards, Eurojersey implements a rigorous quality control process.

In line with their exacting standards, the team conduct: pre-production checks before printing, designs and colors are thoroughly checked for accuracy against colour references and specifications. In-process monitoring during production, using real-time monitoring ensures that the colours and design patterns are consistent across the entire production run. Post-production inspection after printing, the finished fabrics are carefully inspected to ensure they meet the quality standards, with colour fastness and print clarity being key focus areas.

The implementation of Eurojersey’s robust CMS ensures colour accuracy across all printed outputs and leverages the benefits of digital process to enable real-time colour management, therefore reducing waste and ensuring the final product always matches the designer's specification. This advanced colour management has been made possible through the integration of the BARBIERI spectrophotometer Spectro LFP qb Textile edition, a high-precision colour measurement device that ensures accurate calibration and verification of colours throughout the production workflow.

“With digital technologies, Eurojersey can manage on-demand printing, enabling the company to produce smaller batches based on specific customer requirements or changing market trends. This reduces the need for large inventory storage and allows for rapid response to customer orders or changes” Alessio Zocchi explained.

“Eurojersey is not just about production. A collaborative and innovative approach in digital print design and product development for clients is part of our philosophy. With digital technologies, the company manages on-demand printing, enabling smaller, custom batches based on specific customer requirements or changing market trends”.

Besides sustainability in production, the company's commitment to sustainable manufacturing is also evident in its SensitivEcoSystem® program. It includes reduced water and energy consumption, minimized use of chemicals, and integration of more eco-friendly materials in its products. Looking forward, Eurojersey plans to expand this program to include more sustainable solutions throughout the supply chain and collaborate with partners and clients to reduce environmental impact further and enhance product performance, as achieved with the color measurement devices from BARBIERI electronic.

In conclusion, the future of manufacturing lies in sustainable and efficient practices. Eurojersey’s strategy, imbued with innovation, efficiency, and sustainability - signposts the textile printing industry towards a future where sustainability and efficiency are considered as standard. This evolution is the key to Eurojersey's success - making them a notable case study of sustainable manufacturing and digital innovation.

We wish them ever continued success and thank the team at Eurojersey, Alessio Zocchi alongside Mr. Andrea De Rossi from Technologie Grafiche (Verona – Italy) and BARBIERI electronic for their shared knowledge and assistance in this case study.
